NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Adams girls basketball seventh- and eighth-grade travel team in on a roll having won nine out of their last 10 and currently sits at 26-12 on the season.
This past weekend, it went 4-1 and achieved its goal of bringing the Berkshire County title back to Adams.
It opened the county tournament on Friday night by beating Mount Greylock, 49-14. Saturday morning, it defeated Dalton, 49-36. Saturday evening, it suffered its lone tournament loss to the Pittsfield Boys and Girls Club, 38-36, on a last second layup.
That loss set up a semifinals matchup against Dalton, where Adams prevailed, 49-37. Adams wrapped their championship up with a 44-36 win over Pittsfield Boys and Girls Club on Sunday.
Adams rode its gritty man defense and clutch free throw shooting to victory. The girls shot an astounding 37-for-44 from the charity stripe during the semifinals and finals.
The win was Adams' fourth tournament championship of the season.
In the fifth- and sixth-grade division, North Adams' girls beat Williamstown in the final to win the Southern Division title.
The South Division included teams from North Adams, Williamstown, Adams and Lee.
