Carr Hardware takes delivery of 200 trees in North Adams.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — It may seem too early in the season to decorate a Christmas tree, but for those who like to start a little early, Carr Hardware has you covered.

After all, the holiday is only 41 days away.

Carr Hardware received its annual delivery of trees on Wednesday afternoon that manager Don Disbrow said typically come from upstate New York or Vermont near the Canadian border.

"I think people just want them decorated and ready to go and a lot of people like to decorate them Thanksgiving weekend right after Thanksgiving," he said, adding people start buying last 2 1/2  of November. "Once you get past the first week of December, it really picks up."

Disbrow said the North Adams store typically receive around 200 trees. This year, the delivery was of balsam and Fraser firs.

"It's usually a mix -- every year it is different," he said. "They are really good quality trees … when we open them up, they fold right down. They are nice-looking trees."

Disbrow said the trees come in three sizes 5 to 6 feet tall, 6 to 7 feet, and 7 to 8 feet. He said a Carr employee will cut the bottom so customers have a fresh trunk.

There are always a few people who purchase a tree before Thanksgiving and try to make it last until Christmas, he said.

Disbrow has two simple words of advice for them: "Water it!"

"You are going to want to keep it watered for sure."
