MCLA Women's Soccer Earns First League Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- MCLA's Hannah Van de Water scored the game-winner in the 57th minute, and the Trailblazers extended the lead with an own goal late in the contest to earn a 2-0 MASCAC victory over the visiting Massachusetts Maritime women's soccer team.
 
The win snapped a six-game slide for the Trailblazers as they improved to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
 
Van de Water broke open a scoreless contest with her third goal of the season. She collected a pass from Taconic graduate Lauren Mangiardi and converted to lift her team to a 1-0 lead. The score remained that way until late in the contest.
 
In the 88th minute, MCLA pressured the Bucs and were credited with an own goal to put the game out of reach.
 
The Trailblazers were outshot by the visiting Buccaneers 18-12, but Hoosac Valley alumna Megan Richardson was outstanding once again in goal.  She collected 11 saves to earn her second win of the season.
 
Mikayla Houlihan was credited with the loss but stopped five shots for MMA (1-7, 0-3).
 
MCLA is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Cobleskill, N.Y., for a non league matchup.
 
Men's Soccer
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Four different Buccaneers scored as the Massachusetts Maritime men's soccer team defeated the visiting MCLA Trailblazers, 4-0.
 
The Bucs (2-6-1, 1-2) got on the board in the 41st minute when Adam Crawford scored to give the hosts the lead.
 
Sean Bradshaw absorbed the loss for the Trailblazers (0-8-1, 0-3), but did collect 10 saves in defeat.
 
MCLA is back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts Southern Vermont at 6 p.m.
 
Men's Cross Country
KEENE, N.H. -- The MCLA men's cross country team placed sixth in the Keene State Invitational.  The 8k race was won by Keene State.
 
Jacob Movsessian of Fitchburg State took home top individual honors running the 8k in 26 minutes, 35 seconds.
 
Christopher Gamble led the Trailblazers covering the track in 29:44, which earned him a 16th place finish overall. Corey Powers was next across with a time of 30:38 and came in 22nd.
 
MCLA Saturday goes to Westfield Statefor the James Early Invitational.
 
Women's Cross Country
KEENE, N.H. -- The MCLA women's cross country program placed fifth in the Keene State Invitational.
 
The result was MCLA's best of the season. The hosts took the top team honors.
 
The Trailblazers were paced once again by Julie Gambill. Gambill ran the 5k race in 22:01 to finish 20th overall, her best finish of the season. Jenna Berg finished second for MCLA with a time of 27:55, good for 33rd.
 
Breanna Castor was right behind Berg in 34th place.  Kaitlin Gevry and Drury graduate Hunter Schrade also ran for MCLA.
 
MCLA is back at it next weekend at the James Early Invitational hosted by Westfield State.
