NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The North Adams SteepleCats, in partnership with the North Adams Public Library, presents a Cub Club summer reading program that aims to cultivate a youth presence at the ballfield and promote literacy.

Through events like story times and game nights, participating youth have the opportunity to partake in a mentorship with SteepleCats players that fosters excitement over reading and continues past the library, to the ballfield. To sign up, contact Duffy Martin by email.

The following events have been scheduled for Cub Club members:

Ballpark Sundays

At 3:30 p.m. on Sundays June 10, 17 and 24 and July 1, 8, 15 and 22 at Joe Wolfe Field, Cub Club members and their families gather at the ballpark to enjoy a book reading followed by a Steeplecats game. Outdoor activities that promote healthy, active lifestyles will also be offered. During the games families can play some lawn games or sit and watch the game in a designated Cub Club area, cheering on players they have gotten to know through the program. At the meet-ups, kids will be encouraged to engage in a community of youth at the ballpark wholly unique to the SteepleCats.

Steeple Story Time

At 3:30 p.m. on Mondays June 11 (at the North Adams Public Library), June 18 and 25 and July 2, 9, 16 and 23 at the Baseball Museum on Main Street in North Adams, Cub Club families are encouraged to attend Monday book readings held by SteepleCats players and Library staff. Families may enjoy snacks, crafts, bond with players, and receive books courtesy of the NAPL. Open to all ages, this story time is meant to encourage Northern Berkshire youth to get excited about reading and explore all the North Adams Public Library has to offer.

Cub Book Club

At 10 a.m. on June 27 and July 18 at the Baseball Museum on Main Street, North Adams, youth participating in the Book Club will receive the chosen chapter book courtesy of the public library and SteepleCats. Readers will meet twice over the summer to discuss the book over snacks with SteepleCats players. Designed for youth entering grades three through five. Registration is required as space is limited.

Game Days

At 6 p.m. on June 12 and 21 and July 25 at the North Adams Public Library, Cub Club families are encouraged to participate in board games, legos, and trivia events that are being held throughout the SteepleCats’ season. This is a chance for the Cub Club community to bond through laughs, snacks, and some friendly competition.

SteepleCats Literacy Night

At 3:30 p.m. on July 8 at Joe Wolfe Field, Cub Club members will be acknowledged at Joe Wolfe Field as a part of SteepleCats Literacy Night. Club members will be awarded free admission to the July 8 ballgame and are invited to participate in games on the field between innings. This event will give the general public a chance to learn about and connect with the SteepleCats’ literacy initiative as well as encourage the community to checkout the North Adams Public Library's other summer programs.
