MCLA Volleyball Team Drops Five-Set Decision

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA volleyball team dug a deep hole after dropping the opening two sets, rallied back to tie the match but fell to Wells, 25-15, 25-16, 12-25, 23-25, 15-9, on Saturday at the Amsler Campus Center.
 
Wells (14-5) cruised through the first two sets before MCLA came alive. The Trailblazers (10-12) got back in the match by winning the third set decisively and then edging the visitors in set No. 4.
 
The Trailblazers received a great performance from Allison Clark as the senior had team bests of 15 kills and 23 digs in defeat. Rebecca Godbout also notched a double double with 11 kills and 18 digs for MCLA. Beatrice Lechler and Taylor Wiese combined for 33 assists out of the setter's position.
 
Wells placed four hitters in double figures with Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo leading the way with 12 kills.  Olyvia Brazier and Meredith Kadjeski each ended with 11 while Jackie Allen had 10. Setting the offense up all night was Eliza Schwab who had a match best 43 assists to go along with 20 digs.  Kasie Stamp ended with 19 digs while Nadine Pershyn added 17.
 
MCLA is back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts Framingham State in MASCAC play.
 
Women’s Soccer
WORCESTER, Mass. -- Cate Farmer scored midway through the first half Saturday to give the Worcester State women’s soccer team a 1-0 win over MCLA.
 
Hoosac Valley graduate Megan Richardson made nine saves for MCLA (2-6-3, 0-3-1 MASCAC), which goes to Nichols College for a non-league game on Wednesday.
 
Women’s Cross Country
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The MCLA women's cross country team competed Saturday afternoon in the James Early Invitational held at Westfield State University.  MCLA placed 40th in the team competition.
 
The Trailblazers were led by Annie Gagnon, who finished in 28 minutes, 54 seconds. Sam Gawron was next across the line finishing in 29:05. Kaitlin Wright finished at 29:36 to round out the top three for MCLA.
 
The Trailblazers are back in action next week running at Western New England University.
 
Men’s Cross Country
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The MCLA men's cross country program also competed James Early Invitational, finishing 37th.
 
The Trailblazers were paced by Avery Woodbury's time of 29:05. Next across the line was Christopher Gamble at 29:18 and rounding out the top three for MCLA was Jeremiah Jones.
 
The Trailblazers will run again next weekend at Western New England.
