Marafanyi Meets the Mural: Alaa Awad's "Justice"becomes the catalyst for a community collaboration with Marafanyi Drum, Dance & Song!

The ladies of Marafany will collaborate with inter-generational community members of all abilities during 4 Creative Labs over the summer to compose, choreograph and arrange a unique music/dance/spoken word interpretation of Awad's mural. This community art-making collaboration, based on interaction with the artwork, will culminate with a DownStreet Art Share.

Creative Lab Dates: Saturdays, 7/30, 8/20, 9/3 and 9/24
Culminating Share at the final 2016 DownStreet Art Celebration on Thurs 9/29!

This artmaking opportunity is free and open to the community - all are welcome! The Creative Labs will be lead by the teaching and performing artists of Marafanyi Drum, Dance & Song - Lara Gonzalez with Yael Shacham & Lisa Gonzalez-Howell. Participants are encouraged to sign up for all 4 Labs in preparation for the DSA Share.

The NAMA Prom Committee, a group of passionate North Adams residents, have announced the return of the annual NAMA Prom at the Elks Lodge on 100 Eagle Street. The 21+ semi-formal event will be held on July 30, with doors at 8 p.m. and running until 1:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10, cash or card, or through Eventbrite for $5 while Early Bird supplies last.

This year, the adult prom will time travel you back to the 90's to celebrate all the glamour of the decade that changed our lives forever. While semi-formal prom wear is encouraged, dressing to the theme of the prom is also accepted.

NAMA Prom will feature entertainment from Berkshires-based DJs iamsam and Elixer, who will be spinning all your 90’s favorites all night. Take a break from dancing to get your picture taken at the photo booth, visit the Elks cash bar, or head upstairs to the 90s nostalgia room. First 50 people through the door will receive 90s BINGO cards with the chance to win a prize.

The AYJ Fund Corn Hole Tournament will be held at Noel Field in North Adams on Saturday, July 23 rd . This fun event is being held to benefit the AYJ Fund’s support of children’s cancer research programs of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Following official corn hole tournament rules, the AYJ Fund Corn Hole Tournament is open to the public. $ 100 1 st place team prize. This is a family fun event, with kids corn hole, can jam, bocce, and more. The event will also feature Fatboy’s Food Truck and a Chinese auction. We at BCRC seek 5-8 dedicated community volunteers to help make our night market a success, as well as aid in collecting evaluative data during the event. We are seeking community members who can commit at least 1-2 hours of their time that evening. Light refreshments will be provided for those who volunteer! Interested? Each Sunday afternoon in July and August, families are invited to learn more about the Golden Age of the Spanish nobility and celebrate the human body, exploring the history and themes central to the Clark’s summer exhibition, Splendor, Myth, and Vision: Nudes from the Prado. Leave your mark on a giant body tracing mural, take home a crown fit for a Spanish king, make your own wire sculpture of a work from the special exhibition and more. Free with admission. Free Concert Series: Bernice Lewis

Join singer-songwriter Bernice Lewis for an evening of lively folk music for all ages. With almost four decades of performing festivals, concert halls, coffeehouses, colleges, and house concerts, along with a half dozen acclaimed CDs, Lewis has built a solid national fan base. She has been a featured performer on NPR’s Mountain Stage program, as well as at the Kennedy Center. Her ballad, “Bridges That Hold,” was included in Peter, Paul and Mary’s Lifelines video (PBS). Lewis is the Artist Associate in Songwriting at Williams College. She also teaches at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Rock On Camp at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and at many schools and retreat centers. She has also been an Artist in Residence and workshop presenter at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, Kripalu Center for Yoga in Lenox, Massachusetts, and Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California.
