Stefan Lamarre and Kevin Alicia deliver turkeys to the Salvation Army.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Local firefighters delivered 40 turkeys to families in need this holiday season.

Early last Tuesday morning, the group loaded into one of the engines and drove to Price Chopper – not to put out a blaze, but to pick up 40 Butterball turkeys.

Firefighter Stefan Lamarre said every year Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts Local 1781 donates turkeys that they truck to different organizations. This year, the North Adams Salvation Army and Friendship Center Food Pantry was on the list.

"There are just a lot of people out there that are a little less fortunate than others," Lamarre said. "There are people without jobs."

Last year, 20 turkeys were donated to the Salvation Army, however, Lamarre said this year, they got a jump start on the program and were able to tie in the Food Pantry.

Lamarre said the Fire Department wanted to make sure families that would go without this holiday season can at least get a good meal.

"It is just good to bring a little comfort to them around the holidays, and to know that they won't go hungry," he said.
