NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Northern Berkshire community is invited to help celebrate the life, principles and ideals of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 19, in the annual “Day of Service.”

The celebration begins at 9 a.m. at MCLA Church Street Center, located on the corner of Church and Porter streets. The public can participate by providing service to the community at more than 10 sites. The jobs include cleaning up some areas at the Adams Youth Center and working with children and youth on activities; seeking donations for the military care boxes and for the food pantries by giving flyers about the project to customers at Stop & Shop; making simple mitten kits to create warm winter mittens for people in need at the MCLA Church Street Center; and sorting and organizing clothing and items in the North Adams Goodwill store.

For a complete list of service opportunities, visit berkshirenonprofits.com.

After morning service projects, all participants are invited to return to MCLA Church Street Center at 12:30 p.m. for a free luncheon and community celebration of the day of service in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The luncheon also will include local entertainment and the presentation of the annual Peacemaker Award to Al and Cindi McLain.
