Coach Jamie Morrison was selected as MASCAC's Coach of the Year.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Jamie Morrison, Massachusett's College of Liberal Arts men's basketball coach, was selected by the conference's other coaches as the 2012-2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year on Wednesday.

This marks the first time since 1999 for an MCLA coach to take the honor. In 1999, Robert Hamilton won the award.

Morrison, who's in his sixth season, led MCLA to a 13-12 regular season. The Trailblazers also went 9-3 in conference play, their best mark since that 1999 season, and earned the second seed for the MASCAC tournament.

The season started slow for the Trailblazers, as they began 3-9 before firing off six consecutive wins -- five of which were in the conference. After struggling defensively early on, they turned it around to become one of the top defensive teams in the conference.

Under Morrison's guidance, MCLA finished second for the second time in three seasons. In that span, the Trailblazers are 20-16 in MASCAC play.

The Trailblazers are seeking their first championship since 1999. Two more victories would also secure a birth in the NCAA tournament.

First, the Trailblazers have to get by the third seed, Salem State University, on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium.
