NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —It was déjà vu for the SteepleCats Tuesday night, as early opposing team offense and pitching put the game just out of reach.

Fans flocked to Joe Wolfe Field last night for the home opener of the SteepleCats season and were greeted by a great baseball environment to enjoy a game, but also nine Nighthawks runs through the first four innings, leading to a 10-4 win for Upper Valley.

The home team was hindered by errors on the field and eleven runners left on base as it was an uphill battle ever since Upper Valley got two runs across the plate in the first. Three Nighthawks were able to gather three hits each of the team’s thirteen, while

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — NECBL Baseball makes its return to Joe Wolfe Field today as the North Adams SteepleCats host the Upper Valley Nighthawks in the North Adams home opener.

North Adams looks to bounce back after a 9-3 loss was handed to them by the Danbury Westerners on Opening Day last Tuesday. However, this will be Upper Valley’s first game of the season as their Opening Night against the Ocean State Waves was postponed due to rain.

Pitcher Christopher Cepeda of St Thomas Aquinas College makes his start on the mound for the Cats, who maintained a 2.96 ERA after pitching 82 innings this season, helping St Thomas Aquinas capture the East Coast Conference Tournament

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — While the SteepleCats come into the 2018 season with a new look and all new players, the roster does feature some local talent looking to make their mark at Joe Wolfe Field.

One of these players, Matt Koperniak, has already seen plenty of Joe Wolfe Field, as the Hoosac Valley High School star formerly took to the diamond against rival Drury High School who called the field home. Matt comes to the SteepleCats after his sophomore season at Trinity College, where the infielder led Trinity with 47 hits, 75 total bases, a .620 slugging percentage, a .483 on-base percentage, five home runs, and a .388 batting average. Feeling great about his opportunity to play

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Baserunning errors and a quiet early offense hurt the SteepleCats in their first game.

The North Adams SteepleCats fell to the Danbury Westerners 9-3 Tuesday night in their first game of the 2018 NECBL season. North Adams stranded some runners on base throughout the innings, but couldn’t keep up with the offense of the Westerners.

Danbury pitcher Eli Oliphant kept the SteepleCats offense in check for most of the game, going 6 innings while allowing only 1 hit. Oliphant was credited with the win. For North Adams, starter Brandon Alberto was given the loss after going 4 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs.

The SteepleCats had hard-hit balls,
