NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The visiting Keene State women's basketball team got 20 points and four steals from Sandi Purcell, and the Owls buried 13 3-pointers as they held off the MCLA Trailblazers, 59-52, in non-conference women's basketball action Tuesday evening.   Purcell scored 12 of her 20 points in the closing half. The senior connected on just six of 15 shots, but buried five 3s to lead the Owl attack. Teammate Emily McPadden notched 15 points, and Lilly Shlimon added 11 points for Keene (2-6).   MCLA took its only lead of the night at the 7:24 mark of the third quarter on Emily Moulton's bucket in the paint, but Keene immediately answered with a three point play

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- MCLA's Hayden Bird came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points in leading the Trailblazers past visiting Elms College, 77-72, Saturday afternoon in the Amsler Campus Center gym.   Bird was 9-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-6 from behind the 3-point line. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Eleven different Trailblazers broke into the scoring column as the MCLA women's basketball team jumped out to a 17-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated the visiting Southern Vermont Mountaineers, 65-29, in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.   MCLA evens their mark at 3-3 on the season while the Mountaineers fall to 1-6 on the season.   Three Trailblazers ended with 10 points apiece. DALTON, Mass. — Wahconah Regional High School's student-athletes have been presented with the Sportsmanship Award for District G from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.   The award was made at the MIAA's annual Sportsmanship Summit, held this year on Nov. 17, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. It was presented in conjunction with Friendly's Restaurants, which partnered with the student sports association as its official "family restaurant."   Awards are presented to one school chosen by member school athletic directors in each of MIAA's eight athletic districts. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Visiting New York University got 23 points and 10 rebounds from Dom Cristiano as the Violets pulled away in the second half to defeat the MCLA Trailblazers, 97-71, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.   In the opening half, NYU (2-1) never trailed. WOBURN, Mass. –The Bay State Games has added curling to its 2018 winter program.   Curling has gained popularity since the sport was reestablished consistently in the Olympic Games in 1998, after being first debuted in the 1924 Olympics.   As an exhibition sport in 2018, the Bay State Winter Games competition will be comprised of eight teams from curling clubs across Massachusetts. Kevin Boino and the University of Massachusetts men’s soccer team completed a rare Atlantic 10 double last weekend and will look to extend their season on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Division I Championship.   The Minutemen defeated Virginia Commonwealth to win the A10 tournament, becoming the first team to win the regular season outright and the conference tournament in the league since 1991.   Thursday at 1 p.m., UMass will host Colgate in a rematch from the teams’ Sept. 16 meeting in Amherst.
