WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williamstown and Berkshire 9-year-old Cal Ripken All-Star teams saw their games postponed due to rain on Saturday afternoon in the Western Massachusetts State Tournament.   The two local teams were slated to play Marlboro and Mohawk, respectively, in the final session of the day.   But even the third game on each of the tournament's fields was suspended in progress.   At Bud Anderson Field, Northbridge had an 8-0 lead on Marlboro in the top of the third.   At Williamstown Elementary School, Hudson led Ash-Wets, 20-13, in the top of the sixth when the rains came.   Ash-West earlier lost to Douglas, which won twice to move to 2-0 atop

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Matt Koperniak hit his third double in two nights and drove in a pair of runs Friday as the North Adams SteepleCats defeated Ocean State, 6-1, at Joe Wolfe Field.   Koperniak went 2-for-4, and Paul Komistek and Shane Muntz each went 2-for-4 with a double as well in a 13-hit North Adams attack.   Gordon Graceffo went seven innings on the mound, striking out nine, to earn the win. Jackson Tavel finished up with two innings of one-hit relief.   North Adams (14-7) takes a three-game winning streak into Saturday's game at Winnipesaukee.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The largest crowd ever amassed at the North Adams skateboard park came together on Thursday to celebrate the third annual "Grill & Spill" skateboard event.   More than 50 skateboarders from all over New England took part in the event, which featured a Freedom Race, a Skills Competition, a free cookout and raffle prizes that all led up to the grand finale of the annual city fireworks after sunset.    It was the most people assembled at the skateboard park since its grand opening in June 2017. MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Host Marlborough scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Monday to defeat the Berkshire All-Stars, 6-2, in the Cal Ripken Baseball 12-and-under Western Massachusetts State Tournament semi-finals.   Griffin McElroy hit a solo home run, and Roshan Warriar singled to drive in a run.   Dominic Velasco started on the mound and went three innings before handing the ball to McElroy, who struck out three in two innings of work.   The Berkshire All-Stars advanced to Monday's semi-final by going 3-1 in pool play over the weekend.
