WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State volleyball team Tuesday advanced in the MASCAC tournament with a first round, 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-12, 25-12), win over the visiting MCLA Trailblazers.   Brianna Starkey paved the way for the Owls with 18 kills and eight digs. Westfield setter, Ally Rega connected on 41 assists and picked up 11 digs in the victory.   The Trailblazers led wire-to-wire in the second set to even the match at 1-1. Lee High graduate Ahna Schlaefer and Wahconah grad Kelsey Lafreniere picked up the final point with a block. Schlaefer and Lafreniere each posted a team-high six kills on the night to lead MCLA. . WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Christopher Gamble placed 32nd Saturday to lead the MCLA men's cross country team at the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Championships at Mount Greylock Regional School.   Gamble covered the 8-kilometer course in 30 minutes, 36.08 seconds. The winning time, 27:17.22, was turned in by Bridgewater State's Trevor Wysong.   Fitchburg State won the team total. BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- The MCLA volleyball team needed a win over Mass Maritime to clinch a playoff berth in next week's MASCAC championships.   The Trailblazers did just that as they handed the Buccaneers a 3-0 defeat to advance into next week's tournament. The Trailblazers snapped a three-match slide as they ended the regular season at 8-17 and 2-5 in the league. The Bucs finish their season at 2-19 overall and 1-6 in the MASCAC.   MCLA was in a dogfight early on as they held off MMA 26-24 in the opening set. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. -- STEM programming is coming to the Baseball in the Berkshires Museum.   The exhibit at the Berkshire Mall will present monthly programs on science, technology, engineering and math starting Saturday, Nov. 3, from 1-2 p.m. for all ages.   The first program is "The Crack of the Bat." Learn how a bat is made. Physics, engineering, technology, mathematics and safety all have a part.   Using the bats of Shoeless Joe, The "Babe", Jackie, Miggy, "Big Papi," Dustin, Mookie and Judge, discover how they cracked these problems.

NASHUA, N.H. -- MCLA's Lauren Mangiardi scored a goal and collected an assist as she led the Trailblazers to a 2-0 road win over Rivier this evening in non league action.   MCLA's Kate Mancini scored the game winner in the 41st minute of play. She knocked home a feed from Mangiardi and the Trailblazers would lead 1-0.  The game would stay that way into halftime before Mangiardi struck again.   This time, it was just 1:35 into the second half.  The Taconic graduate tallied an unassisted marker to increase the lead to 2-0.
