The commonwealth’s premier road race may be shut down, but that will not keep down Berkshire County’s running enthusiasts.   Monday should be marathon day in Massachusetts, but the 124th running of the Boston Marathon has been postponed until at least September by the Boston Athletic Association in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.   On Saturday, Gov. Charlie Baker recognized the loss of the event.   “This year, while the race will not be taking place on Monday, the sentiment, I think we all feel here in Massachusetts on marathon Monday remains true: Massachusetts is strong, we are resilient, and we can run any marathon anybody wants us to run,” Baker

CHESHIRE, Mass. — The two-time state champion Hoosac Valley girls basketball team is sending a dual message with the video it created for social media this month.   Like a lot of basketball teams, the Hurricanes have caught the craze of posting a video montage of players who cannot gather in one place but can virtually unite as a ball is passed from outside the frame to each team member and then relayed to the next, who catches and passes in their own backyard or driveway.   The videos are a fun take on the concepts of social distancing and staying connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.   Hoosac Valley coach Ron Wojcik decided to put a different spin on

Despite Friday's snow showers, New Englanders know that summer -- or what passes for it in these parts -- is just around the corner.   But it remains to be seen whether one of North County's rites of summer, opening day for the North Adams SteepleCats, will happen on schedule or happen at all.   On Thursday, the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball, an umbrella group that includes the New England Collegiate Baseball League, said it continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and how it might impact the seasons of its 12 member leagues.   "Due to vast uncertainty about when the pandemic will safely pass and when social distancing requirements may be

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Xander Bogaerts will have a chance to lead his team back to the playoffs.

Aaron Judge will continue his assault on the home-run record book.   There will be a baseball season in 2020. And it will open sometime in early April.   At least in Cheshire it will.   For more than four decades, the World Baseball League has used Strat-O-Matic Baseball to bring the game home for brothers Jeff and Matt Chaput and a group of friends who have tested their baseball IQs against one another and fate to see who is the best at managing a virtual team of very real Major Leaguers.   Strat-O-Matic, which began in 1961, combines the statistics of current players with
