BENNINGTON, Vt. -- The MCLA mixed tennis team cruised to an 8-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win this afternoon over visiting Vermont's Lyndon State.   MCLA (3-4, 1-1 NAC) started fast and never looked back. Charles Najimy and Matt Bluteau earned a point in the top doubles slot with a hard fought 8-6 win over Patrick Wickstrom and Neal Mulligan.  Nick Castle and Sam Gawron defeated Kyle Leighton and Mukhtar Abdullahi 8-2 in the second slot for another point.  Briana Higgins and Mackenna Jordan rolled to an 8-1 win in the third doubles slot to give MCLA a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play.   Najimy earned his second tough point of the afternoon by dispatching

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State used a five-run eighth inning to pull away to an 11-6 win over the MCLA Trailblazers Wednesday afternoon in MASCAC action.   The game was originally scheduled to be played in North Adams but was moved to Westfield due to wet field conditions.   The Owls started fast putting up three runs in the top of the first off Trailblazer starter Mike Urbanski (2-2).  Westfield's Anthony Crowley belted a two run homer to deep left for an early 2-0 advantage. FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Senior pitcher Kelsi Gunarathne became the Framingham State University softball career strikeout leader as she earned the victory both games of the doubleheader, and the Rams swept the MCLA Trailblazers by scores of 11-0 and 5-0 Saturday afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action.   Gunarathne entered the game with 350 career strikeouts needing just two to surpass the old mark of 351 established by former Ram Yaya Faria who wore the black and gold from 2011-13. Gunarathne struck out the first batter in the second inning tying Faria's mark and broke the record a batter later with her second strikeout of the game and inning.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mitchell College's Kate McCormack Wednesday scored six goals as she led the Mariners to a hard fought 12-9 decision over the MCLA Trailblazers tonight at Shewcraft Field.    The Mariners earned their first win of 2019 as they improve to 1-2 overall.   MCLA drops to 0-3 as they prepare to head into conference play Friday night.   McCormack got Mitchell (1-2) on the board early as she tallied just two minutes into the contest for an early 1-0 advantage. NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The MCLA softball team featured a balanced offensive attack and held late leads in both games but was unable to hold on as it was swept by Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon.   MCLA fell to 2-10 and returns to action Sunday as they visit Rhode Island College for a pair of nonconference contests.   MCLA would open up the scoring in Game One with four runs in the top of the 2nd. AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- MCLA senior left hander Bobby New of Pittsfield tossed a complete game shutout in the opener as the Trailblazers took game one from Purchase State, 3-0, in the RussMatt Invitational on Friday.
