MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Shane Muntz hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give the North Adams SteepleCats an 8-5 lead en route to a 10-8 win over Vermont on Tuesday in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.   The SteepleCats went on to score two more runs in that inning to build a 10-5 margin that the Mountaineers could not overcome.   Muntz went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and Scout Knotts was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. LACONIA, N.H. -- The Winnipesaukee Muskrats earned a double-header sweep of the North Adams SteepleCats in New England Collegiate Baseball League on Sunday.   In Game One, Winnipesaukee hit three home runs Sunday to earn a 5-3 win.   Shane Muntz homered and drove in three runs for the 'Cats, who got a pair of hits from Andrew Pedone.   In the nightcap, the Muskrats got a couple more homers in a 9-8, come-from-behind win.   Winnipesaukee scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh. DALTON, Mass. -- The Berkshire Force 10-and-under team Sunday scored 14 runs in the bottom of the first en route to a forfeit win in the title game of the 10th annual Dalton CRA Softball Tournament.   Mia DeJesus earned a perfect game of sorts, striking out the side in the top of the first.   After the Force rolled to its big inning in the bottom of the frame, its opponents from Latham, N.Y., threw in the towel and went home.   A.J. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams struck just before Mother Nature did on Saturday night, as the local team rallied to a 9-5 victory over the Boston North End Dodgers, just before weather shortened the first game of the annual LaFesta Baseball Exchange at Joe Wolfe Field.   The two sides met for the 29th straight season in the yearly event in which each club travels for a two-game series. SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- Ocean State built a six-run lead before the North Adams SteepleCats to get a run across the plate in a 6-1 Waves' win on Friday in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.   Elijah Dunham went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs for Ocean State.   Matt Koperniak drove in the lone run for the SteepleCats in the top of the ninth.   The SteepleCats managed just one hit in the loss.   North Adams (19-12) returns home for the first time in five games on Saturday to play Newport in a rare 1 p.m. matinee at Joe Wolfe Field, site of the La Festa Baseball Exchange on Saturday evening.

“Lazy days of summer”? Not for local youngsters on a variety of travel sports teams.   This weekend will be filled with tournament play on softball and baseball diamonds near and far.   One of the biggest local softball events of the year gets under way on Friday in Dalton, where 26 teams will compete in four age divisions at the 10th annual Dalton CRA Invitational.   Titles will be awarded in 10-and-under, 12U, 14U and 16U age groups.   Local teams in action include the hosts from Dalton, Great Barrington, the Berkshire Blaze, Berkshire Force and Adams-Cheshire-Savoy Swat.   The action gets underway on Friday.
