Beatrice Melissa Walde Schmidt

Beatrice Melissa Walde Schmidt, 79, of Apt #105, Ashland Park Apartments, 150 Ashland Street, died Christmas Day at Williamstown Commons following a short illness.

Born in Bennington, Vt., on April 25, 1926, daughter of the late Harry Walden and Beatrix Murray Walden, she was educated in Williamstown schools, including Williamstown High School.

Mrs. Schmidt was primarily a devoted homemaker for her family. In her younger years, she was employed by General Cable Corp. in Williamstown and later by the former Hunter Outdoor Products Corp. in North Adams.

She was a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church of North Adams.

She married her husband, Karl William Schmidt, on April 8, 1944, in Bennington. He died Aug. 7, 1980.

She leaves two daughters, Bonnie Lea Zustra of North Adams and Barbara Jean Dunn of Clarksburg; two sons, Karl August "Butch" Schmidt and William Arthur Schmidt, of North Adams; three sisters, Bernice Walker, Betty Lauzon and Julia Dwyer, all of North Adams; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Berenice A. Basinger, who died Nov. 1, 1995, and Bette Jean Marceau, who died Feb. 4, 2004.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Beatrice M. Schmidt, 79, who died Dec. 25, 2005, will take place Friday at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS -- WEST CHAPEL.

Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, from 9 until the funeral. Memorial donations in her name may be made to Elder Services through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.

She is predeceased by two daughters, Berenice A. Basinger and Bette Jean Marceau, and four brothers, Russell Moon, Marshall Moon, Harry Walden, Jr. and William Walden.
