Dorothy A. Schneider Piaggi

Dorothy A. Schneider Piaggi, 88, of Loomis House Nursing Center, Holyoke, formerly of North Adams, died Monday evening at Holyoke Hospital, where she was admitted April 14.

Born in North Adams on Nov. 2, 1914, daughter of Stephen A. and Clementina Gazzaniga Rosasco, she attended the former Mark Hopkins School and graduated in 1932 from Drury High School, where she was a member of the Pro Merito and Nu Sigma honor societies and the band.

She moved to Loomis Village in South Hadley in 1992 and to the nursing center in 2000.

Mrs. Piaggi was bookkeeper and treasurer of the former Parker Machine Co., which was operated by her first husband, Mathias “Max” Schneider.

Prior to that, she was secretary to the manager of the former Arnold Print Works in Adams.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a member of its Rosary Society.

Her first husband, whom she married April 26, 1941, died Oct. 15, 1971.

Her husband, Francis Piaggi, whom she married Feb. 1, 1974, died July 4, 1983.

She leaves three daughters, Sisters Maxyne D. Schneider of Gardner and twins Joan M. Schneider of Westfield and Jean C. Schneider of West Springfield, all of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and a stepson, Anthony F. Piaggi of Northampton.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dorothy A. Rosasco Schneider Piaggi will be Friday at 9:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 in St. Francis’ Church. Burial in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 3 to 8 at the funeral home.

Donations to Sisters of St. Joseph, Mont Marie, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to House of Peace & Education Inc., 20 Barthel Ave., Gardner, MA 01440, in care of the funeral home. Survivors include two godchildren, Mary Claire Sheehan May of Queensbury, N.Y., and Michael Lahey of Bow, N.H.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Predeceased by two sisters, Norma Gallese and Sylvia Sheehan.
